Wherever there is an athlete, there is a coach.  Many parents/guardians, teachers, basketball enthusiasts, and other volunteers, get involved in coaching.  Many players also get involved in coaching while they are playing and/or once they have finished their playing career.  Many coaches are volunteers, while for others, it may become their profession.  Coaches are needed throughout the sport including in House League, Rep basketball, the OSBA, provincial/national teams, development programs, AAU, and other areas.

Regardless of the reasons for becoming a coach, there is a certification process which all coaches must partake in called the National Coaching Certification Program (NCCP).
