Officiating
In the sport of basketball, officials are referred to as referees. Referees ensure that the game is played safely and fairly in accordance with the rules established by the governing body.

In the province of Ontario, the Ontario Association of Basketball Officials (OABO), is affiliated with Ontario Basketball, the Canadian Association of Basketball Officials (CABO), and the International Association of Approved Basketball Officials (IAABO).

There is a certification process for officials which includes 5 levels. Officiating training occurs at the local level, hosted by local officiating boards, and at the provincial level at camps hosted by Ontario Basketball and the OABO. Ontario Basketball also offers an Introduction to Officiating course for organizations running House Leagues, Intramurals, and other basketball programming.
