Recreational Pathway

This is a great way to see if you like basketball and get an idea of how you want to be involved. The Recreational Pathway tends to revolve around House League and Intramural teams. It might lead you to officiating, coaching, volunteering, or just plain old fitness and having fun!

Here are the opportunities available to you at a recreational level:

At this level, commitment is light. House League typically only meets once a week for games. This path is often used by girls who like to play more than one sport or who like to play for the social and active living aspects of the sport. Some will spend a couple of years in House League and decide that they would like to be more competitive, so they move to Rep.

Junior Hoops

This is the entry point for young children (ages 5 to 8) into the sport.  The focus of Junior Hoops is fun and fundamentals.  Most programs are 1 hour in length and include lessons on skill development along with competition segments which are presented in a fun environment.

Some program offerings are divided into specific age categories.  There is a fee to participate which may include a reversible jersey, a basketball, and a medallion (or some other acknowledgement).

From the Junior Hoops program, players progress on to House League or directly into a Rep program.

Junior NBA Youth Basketball – Jr. NBA

This is a national youth basketball program designed to develop fundamental skills, sportsmanship and a love for the game for youth ages 5 to 12 years.  This is a grassroots initiative supported by the NBA and Basketball Canada.

There is a fee to participate which includes a reversible jersey, basketball and other items.  The program is delivered by clubs throughout Canada.  Clubs must apply for the right to offer the program.
