The sport of basketball in high school is governed by OFSAA.  High school basketball is for students in grades 9 to 12.  Some high schools have only one team for all grades – a varsity team.  Other high schools offer a junior team (grade 9 and 10) and a senior team (grade 11 and 12).  All high schools who offer girls' basketball have tryouts during the first weeks of school.

High schools compete in a league and may also compete in tournaments.  The high school season for girls’ basketball starts early in the fall term and ends with conference champions competing at the OFSAA championship in November.
